M5tec’s journey is a powerful example of how values driven engineering, technical excellence, and steady, purposeful growth can transform a small start-up into a multidisciplinary engineering force. Founded in 2014 by a group of engineers committed to “engineering done right, done safely, and done to the best of everyone’s abilities,” M5tec has since evolved into a leading provider of engineered solutions across nuclear, subsea, and fusion industries
Their growth has been organic, ambitious, and rooted in a clear ethos – honesty, responsibility, and uncompromising quality, backed by ISO certified systems that guide their work across every project and discipline.
A Decade of Technical Strength and Expansion
In just over a decade, M5tec has outgrown three different offices and expanded its national footprint to include locations in County Durham, Warrington, and – critically – Culham, Oxfordshire. This expansion reflects the company’s widening technical capability, from mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering to remote handling, embedded engineering support, and turnkey delivery for highly complex, safety critical environments.
Their technical breadth and reputation have positioned M5tec as a trusted partner for cutting-edge engineering challenges in hazardous and high assurance environments.
Growing Within Oxfordshire’s Fusion and Engineering Cluster
M5tec’s established presence on the Culham Campus marks a natural progression for the business. Culham is one of the UK’s most successful science and technology locations – a hub of collaboration, discovery, and engineering innovation, home to over 45 commercial organisations, fusion specialists, researchers, and technologists working at the forefront of scientific progress.
For a company deeply involved in fusion engineering and advanced technical projects, basing part of their operations at Culham strengthens their role in the national fusion cluster and places them alongside leading innovators in one of the most dynamic scientific communities in the country.
Our Role in the Journey: 25 Years of Supporting Innovators
For 25 years, Culham Innovation Centre has been a launchpad for early‑stage science and technology companies – providing specialist workspace, labs, workshops, and a supportive environment designed specifically to help innovators flourish. As part of the wider Culham Campus ecosystem, the centre plays an important role in bringing together entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers who benefit from proximity to world‑leading fusion research and technical expertise.
As a growing engineering consultancy in its early Oxfordshire phase, M5tec was able to situate itself in a community surrounded by like‑minded companies and pioneering thinkers. Culham Innovation Centre’s flexible space, networking opportunities and access to a rich technical environment have supported many start-ups over the years – including companies like M5tec, who have gone on to expand, graduate and take permanent positions within Culham’s thriving innovation ecosystem.
Today, as M5tec continues to grow on the Campus, their success adds to the many achievements celebrated by Culham Innovation Centre over the past quarter century. Their story is exactly what the centre was built for: helping promising science and technology companies find the right environment to innovate, scale and make their mark.
Looking Ahead
M5tec’s move onto the Culham Campus isn’t an end point – it’s a new stage in an already impressive journey. Their commitment to engineering quality, their adaptability, and their ability to take on complex, future focused technical challenges put them in an ideal position to contribute to the next era of fusion energy, remote handling, hazardous environment engineering and beyond.
We are proud to have played even a small part in supporting their early steps in Oxfordshire – just as we have for many innovators over our 25 year history – and we’re excited to see what this next chapter brings for M5tec as they continue to push boundaries at the heart of one of the UK’s most dynamic scientific communities.
