Isis Instruments and Laplacian Ltd

Working together for a better future

October 7th 2016

Culham Innovation Centre provided the catalyst for collaboration, where Isis Instruments and Laplacian Ltd worked together to be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.

Based in their bespoke lab space at Culham Innovation Centre, Laplacian Ltd create a range of high technology magnet systems, with a particular focus on the field of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). Their commitment to research and development ensures that their customers receive exactly the right technology to meet their needs.

This commitment is very much shared by Isis Instruments, just one of the many pioneering companies working to make new discoveries here with us. Isis instruments is a scientific instruments design consultancy, specialising in vacuum instrumentation particularly in the field of surface science and physical vapour deposition.

When Laplacian took on board a special research project for a huge multinational corporation, the team were in need of some specialist support – and they didn’t have to look far. With so many incredible companies working under one roof, it was only a matter of time before Laplacian stumbled upon exactly what they were missing – something that Isis Instruments were happy to produce. With both labs situated so close to one another, the two teams began to collaborate on the project together with Laplacian providing electric field modelling of the electron beam path and Isis Instruments Ltd a working electron gun.

“Peter at Laplacian and I are just down the corridor from each other so naturally fell into talking about what we do, and realised the synergy and overlap of our companies.  In fact we had collaborated previously when I designed and manufactured power supplies for NMR magnets he was building."

Christian Bradley, MD at Isis Instruments

Thanks to Culham’s active science and technology community, Laplacian and Isis Instruments were able to aid their client’s ground-breaking research, and have made their own discoveries along the way. It’s just one example of the incredible teamwork and collaboration that goes on here at the centre.
